Go back to normal view
God of trackless desert
Whose Son walked untamed
Whose kingdom is not distant
But breaking in among us:
Give us time and space
To find a new identity
To let go of control
And walk the pilgrim way.
Mystery of goodness
By whose gaze
We are being called into being and held in life:
Teach us the secrecy of prayer
Which seeks no reward;
The generosity of love which forgets itself;
The gift of a treasure
Uncountable and unconsumed;
Through Jesus Christ the Son of the wilderness
Lord God, help us to live simply during this time of fasting and prayer and to appreciate the small things in life.
The First Day of Lent is the time when we place ourselves into God’s hands for the Lenten season (40 days) preparing us for Easter and the Paschal Mystery.
Lent is a penitential season of reflection, when we pay particular attention to:
We may choose to do something differently: perhaps to take up something we find hard to do; to take extra time in our lives to read the bible and to pray; or to give up something that we will miss. In doing either of these things, we may choose to put the money we save towards people who are less well off than ourselves.
Lent is a time for many to reflect on their spiritual lives. If you feel you would like to take up the opportunity of confession, Penny and Sue are available throughout Lent. Please see one of them to arrange a time.
Every Lent, there is a Bishop’s Lent Call “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly” for us to support financially and by our prayers.
In 2019 the Bishop’s Lent Call is supporting projects within Southwark Diocese and in Kenya, Sri Lanka and our Link Dioceses in Zimbabwe.
